Sierra Club and 350.org Arrange Busing from Denver to Keystone XL Hearing in Nebraska

The Sierra Club and 350.org are coordinating bus transportation from Denver/Boulder to the only public hearing regarding the Keystone XL pipeline, which is scheduled for Thursday, April 18th, in Grand Island, Nebraska. Given the long distance of the hearing from large cities, it’s likely the location was chosen to suppress participation in the hearing and discourage public input. TransCanada, the company that plans to build the pipeline, is hoping that it’ll be a small gathering – that nobody will make a fuss. They’re hoping that it’s too far away from major cities, hoping that we’ve gotten bored, hoping that we’re not paying attention. We need to prove them wrong. The bus ride from Denver/Boulder to Grand Island, Nebraska, takes approximately 6 hours. Depending on the interest, The Sierra Club is chartering one or two buses for the ride. You can purchase bus tickets here.

 

Background Information
The State Department recently released a deeply flawed draft assessment of the impacts of the Keystone XL pipeline, and they have given the public just 45 days to comment.
Despite the fact that the Keystone XL pipeline is an issue of national (and global) importance, the U.S. State Department has only scheduled a single public comment hearing — April 18th in Grand Island, Nebraska. Nebraskan community leaders whose farms and ranches are threatened by Keystone are asking us to help mobilize supporters to come to this important hearing and stand with them. Please come join us for a BBQ, rally, and to make your voice heard at the hearing.

Here are the key details:

What: Mobilize for the State Department Keystone XL Hearing — with a BBQ, rally and more.

Where: Heartland Fairground Events Center, 700 East Stolley Park Rd., Grand Island, NE 68801. (About 2.5 hours west of Omaha — here’s a map so you can plan your road-trip)

When: The hearing and rally are on Thursday April 18th from Noon until 8pm, and many people will be lining up early in the morning to reserve speaking spots in line. If you can come the day before, we’ll have a big community BBQ led by Nebraska ranchers and farmers!

Who: It’ll be a party — this is going to be a big event, with farmers, ranchers, local residents, Bold Nebraska, Sierra Club, 350.org, and many more.
